The\u00a0polyglots\u00a0<\/strong>are those people who have the knowledge and the ability to speak more than one language.<\/p>\n

They are called\u00a0bilingual<\/em>, if they have the complete knowledge of 2 languages;\u00a0trilingual<\/em>\u00a0of three languages and multilingual or polyglots if they know more than four languages.<\/em><\/p>\n

Recent studies published by\u00a0The Economist<\/em>\u00a0shows how the polyglots are\u00a0chameleons<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What does it mean?<\/p>\n

It means that they can\u00a0change their personality when they talk in onther languages<\/strong>. They can present different attitudes or behaviours. When they immerse themselves into another culture, they change and transform themselves. Speaking another language different from their mother tongue creates new aspects of their personality.<\/p>\n

The American linguist Benjamin Lee Whorf, dead in 1941, said that there was a\u00a0link between language and the view of the world\u00a0<\/strong>and this has been confirmed also by many psychologist<\/strong>.\u00a0The language can influence the thought<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Learn a new language means learn the culture and the way of thinking. The first rule you need to consider when you learn a foreign language is to\u00a0change your way of thinking<\/strong>\u00a0and try to learn the one of the language you are studying. . This is the reason why many Italians learn what we call \u201cInglese maccheronico\u201d, which is not a variant of British\/American English, but a combination of the way of thinking and constructing Italian frameworks and the translation of it into English. This is a sort of\u00a0Italian English<\/em>. Great!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s almost impossible to be perfectly bilingual, because one of the two languages will always be stronger than the other one. This is the reason of\u00a0Linguistic Chameleon<\/strong>: The strongest language let us to be more self-confident, spontaneous and even funnier. The second language, indeed, obliges us to think in a slow ways and makes us feel unsecure and with different attitudes.<\/p>\n

Many psychological tests have shown that bilingual people behave in a different way when they speak the best known language. For example, a Puerto Rican man of NY will be more spontaneous if he speaks in Spanish rather than in English, even though he perfectly knows English language.<\/p>\n
